Christmas in Amsterdam

Every year Saint Nicholas (Sinterklaas) arrives around November 15 in the Netherlands and is given a welcome in the form of a parade in Amsterdam.
He comes with his helpers, the Black Petes (Zwarte Pieten). The story goes that the helpers are so black because they have to slide down the chimneys of all the houses in the country on the eve of December 6th to deliver presents to the children that have been good and to take the children that have been bad in a cloth sack back to Spain, where Saint Nicholas and the Black Petes live.
