World Environment Day (WED) is set to take place on the 5th
June. It's an event that has taken place every year since 1973 and just
one way in which the UN promotes awareness of environmental issues in
the global community. More significantly, it's a day when the people of
the world are encouraged to come together and work towards a more
environmentally sustainable future.

The Queen will celebrate her Diamond Jubilee with a trip down the River
Thames leading a flotilla of more than 1,000 ships. The event will
coincide with the 2012 Summer Olympics to be held in London.
On 3rd June, more than 1,000
boats will celebrate the Queen's 60-year reign and Britain's maritime
history by sailing down the River Thames.The Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant promises to be the most spectacular

Thanksgiving Day is a harvest festival celebrated in the United States and Canada. Thanksgiving was a holiday to express thankfulness, gratitude, and appreciation to God, family and friends for which all have been blessed of material possessions and relationships. Traditionally, it has been a time to give thanks for a bountiful harvest.
It is celebrated in the United States of America on the fourth Thursday in November, which means that this year it will be held on 25th November. It has been a national holiday since 1863 and it commemorates the first joint thanksgiving dinner which took place in 1622.
Do you know why this festivity is called Thanksgiving?
In 1620, a group of British pilgrims reached the East coast of America. The pilgrims nearly starved in their first year as they were unfamiliar with the land and their crops didn't grow. Luckily for them, the Wampanoag Indians helped them adapt to the new terrain and by the autumn of 1622 they were able to offer the Indians a dinner in thanks for the help received.
These days, American families get together to exchange presents and to eat turkey and apple or pumpkin pie.

On 25th July We celebrate the national day of our country "Galicia's National Day". It is also called "Day of the Galician Fatherland"(Día da Patria Galega) or simply "Galicia's Day". In words of Castelao: "The most important holiday of Galicia, the holiday of Galicians".
The origins of this celebration are gone up at 1919, when the Assembly of the Galicianist organization Irmandades da Fala met in the Galician capital, Santiago de Compostela. It was then decided to celebrate the National Day on the 25th of July of the following year. The date was chosen as it is the day dedicated to Saint James, patron saint of both Galicia and the Galician capital city. Irmandades da Fala organise the first Day from Galicia as an act of affirmation of our collective identity.
St. James, the apostle, is also the patron saint of Spain. The city where his remains are held, Santiago de Compostela, is considered the third most holy town after Jerusalem and Rome. The traditional pilgrimage to the grave of the saint, known as the "Way of St. James", has become the most popular pilgrimage for Western European Catholics. When 25th July falls on a Sunday, it is a ″Jubilee year", and a special east door is opened for entrance into the Santiago Cathedral. This year 2010 is a Jubille year and this wonderful and historic city is full of people visiting and enjoying the special celebrations.
This year Europe day, 9th May, marks the 60th anniversary of the Schuman declaration, considered to be the beginning of the creation of what is now the European Union. From January 1st to June 30th, the work of driving the EU agenda will lie with Spain. This is a good chance to find out more about the EU.
